Sample transport container: M4RT (red top) or Cobas PCR (yellow top).
Vaginal (may be collected by patient)
Use COBAS collection kit only (yellow top)
1. Insert swab about 5mm past introitus and rotate gently for 30 seconds.
2. Place swab in collection tube and snap off swab at score line so swab fits into tube.
3. Cap tube securely and label with patient name, DOB, date, and time of collection.

Endocervix
Collect specimen using Specimen Collection System supplied as follows:
1. Remove excess mucus from exocervix with medium cleaning swab provided in Specimen Collection System and discard.
2. Insert second medium swab into endocervix, and rotate swab for 30 seconds to ensure adequate sampling.
3. Withdraw swab.
4. Holding tube upright, verify that all medium is at bottom of transport tube. Unscrew cap of transport tube, fully insert swab into M4 transport media. Snap off swab at break point. Screw cap on securely.
5. Label tube with patient’s name (first and last), date and time of collection, and type of specimen.
6. Send specimen refrigerated.

Urethra (Males Only)
Collect specimen using Specimen Collection System supplied as follows:
1. Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection.
2. Insert small-tipped specimen swab 2 to 4 cm into urethra, and rotate swab for 3 to 5 seconds to ensure adequate sampling.
3. Withdraw swab.
4. Holding tube upright, verify that all medium is at bottom of transport tube. Unscrew cap of transport tube, fully insert swab into M4 transport media. Snap off swab at break point. Screw cap on securely.
5. Label tube with patient’s name (first and last), date and time of collection, and type of specimen.
6. Send specimen refrigerated.

Urine (Male or Female)
1. Patient should not have urinated for at least 2 hour prior to specimen collection.
2. Patient should collect first 15 to 20 mL of a voided urine (first part of stream-NOT MIDSTREAM) into a sterile, screw-capped, plastic, preservative-free specimen collection container.
3. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date and time of collection, and type of specimen.
4. Urine samples must be poured off to the fill line into yellow Cobas transport container within 24 hours of collection.
4. Send urine refrigerated.
Vaginal, Endocervical, Pharyngeal, Rectal sources collected using the GeneXpert swab collection kits.
Urine: transfer urine specimen to the dashed fill line on the yellow topped Xpert Urine Specimen Collection Kit. If kit is not available, promptly send urine sample to the laboratory refrigerated.
