Serum
Specimen must arrive within 2 hours of draw.
Container/Tube: Serum gel tube
Specimen Volume: 2.5 mL of serum
Transport Temperature: Ambient
Collection Instructions: Allow specimen to clot for 30 minutes. Spin in centrifuge. If there is a delay in transport of ≥2 hours, send specimen refrigerated.
Note: Label specimen appropriately (serum).
Urine
Submit an entire 1-hour urine collection in a urine container. No preservative. Send specimen refrigerated.
Note: 1. Starting and ending times of collection are required.
2. Label specimen appropriately (urine).
Freezing Point Depression
Includes a serum and urine osmolality and free water calculation. A positive value indicates that urine is dilute compared with serum. Conversely, if value is negative, indication is that urine is more concentrated than serum.
An interpretive report will be provided.
