Patient Preparation
1. For 3 days prior to test, patient eats normal diet, plus 1 extra slice of bread with each meal.
2. A fasting glucose is drawn and tested prior to giving a loading dose of GlucolaTM. A value of ≥126 mg/dL will result in cancellation of test and notification to ordering physician.
3. Patient should plan on remaining at laboratory until conclusion of test (add at least 1 additional hour). If an autonomic nervous system response develops, a blood specimen will be drawn and analyzed at that time.
4. Test will be discontinued and rescheduled if patient vomits. A 5-hour tolerance will take at least 6 hours to complete; a 3-hour will require at least 4 hours to complete.
