Patient Preparation
1. No appointment is necessary.
2. At registration desk, patient must inform staff of time to be drawn, 2 hours after conclusion of meal. Indicate time meal was injested.
3. Patient must arrive at draw station at least 15 to 20 minutes before blood draw is due.
Specimen Collection
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Plasma
Specimen must arrive within 24 hours of draw.
Container/Tube: Grey-top (potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride) tube
Specimen Volume: 5 mL of potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride plasma
Transport Temperature: Ambient
Collection Instructions: Spin down immediately. Forward promptly.

2. Indicate plasma.
3. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum
Specimen must arrive within 30 minutes of draw.
Container/Tube: Serum gel tube
Specimen Volume: 5 mL of serum
Transport Temperature: Ambient
Collection Instructions: Spin down immediately. If there is a delay in transport of ≥30 minutes, send specimen refrigerated.

3. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
Colorimetric, Glucose Oxidase
Does not include a fasting glucose.
65-100 mg/dL
Critical values (automatic call-back): <50 mg/dL or >500 mg/dL
