Patient Preparation
1. Appointment may be necessary. Call Laboratory location patient is to be drawn for further information.
2. A fasting glucose is drawn and tested prior to ingestion of a loading dose of GlucolaTM. A fasting glucose of ≥126 mg/dL will cancel this test.
3. Two hours following loading dose of GlucolaTM, specimen is drawn.
Specimen Collection
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Plasma
Specimen must arrive within 24 hours of draw.
Container/Tube: Grey-top (potassium oxalate/sodium
fluoride) tube
Specimen Volume: 5 mL of potassium oxalate/sodium fluoride plasma
Transport Temperature: Ambient
Collection Instructions: Spin down immediately. Forward promptly.

2. Indicate plasma.
3. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum
Specimen must arrive within 30 minutes of draw.
Container/Tube: Serum gel tube
Specimen Volume: 5 mL of serum
Transport Temperature: Ambient
Collection Instructions: Allow specimen to clot for 30 minutes. Spin in centrifuge. If there is a delay in transport of ≥30 minutes, send specimen refrigerated.

2. Indicate serum.
3. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
Colorimetric, Glucose Oxidase

Critical values (automatic call-back): <50 mg/dL or >500 mg/dL
