Royal blue top (trace element), with EDTA (K2) TRACE ELEMENT TUBES REQUIRED
2.5 mL EDTA whole blood
0.3 mL EDTA whole blood
Royal blue (trace element) and/or Metal-Free aliquot tubes are available from MLabs (800-862-7284). Collect blood in a royal blue top (trace element) tube with EDTA (K2). Immediately mix blood sample by inverting gently 8 times. Refrigerate and send intact whole blood specimen. Do not collect specimens for trace metal testing from patients who have received gadolinium-, iodine-, or barium-containing contrast material within the past 96 hours. These metal-based contrast agents are known to interfere with laboratory techniques commonly used for trace metals analysis.
Collect blood in a royal blue top (trace element) tube with EDTA (K2). Send Lead Reporting Form with the specimen. Heparinized specimens are unacceptable. Gently mix well to prevent clotting. Collection must take place prior to or 48 hours after administering gadolinium-containing contrast media.

ARSENIC (As): <13 ng/mL; CADMIUM (Cd): <5 mcg/mL; LEAD (Pb): <3.5 mcg/dL. Critical Values: age <=15 years: > or = 20 mcg/dL; age >=16 years: > or = 70 mcg/dL; MERCURY (Hg): <10 mcg/mL.
Diagnosis of acute poisoning or toxicity.
High concentrations of gadolinium and iodine are known to interfere with most metals tests. If either gadolinium- or iodine-containing contrast media has been administered, a specimen should not be collected for 96 hours.
Includes: Cadmium (Cd), Arsenic (As), Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg). Test sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories.
