Chemiluminescent Immunoassay
Negative
For detection of IgG and IgM antibodies to Borrelia burgdorferi. If clinical symptoms are present, a positive test result supports the diagnosis of Lyme Disease.
A positive test result in the absence of clinical symptoms may be due to cross-reactivity with antibodies to non-pathogenic treponemes, infectious mononucleosis and from auto-immune disease.
Any specimen that gives a positive or equivocal result for the Borrelia burgdorferi screen test will have in-house Lyme IGG and Lyme IGM confirmatory testing at an additional charge. By ordering this test the clinician acknowledges that additional reflex testing will be performed and billed at a separate additional charge if indicated. If the patient is diagnosed with Lyme disease and the immunoassay result is negative, it is recommended that a repeat specimen be sent in 6 weeks.
