Rapid diagnosis of Bartonella infection. Infection with Bartonella henselae has been associated with cat scratch disease, bacillary angiomatosis, peliosis hepatitis, and endocarditis. Infection with Bartonella quintana has been associated with trench fever, bacillary angiomatosis, and endocarditis.
Extensive cross-reactivity occurs between Bartonella henselae and Bartonella quintana IgG antibodies; however, the infecting species ususally has the higher titer. Cross-reactivity of IgM between the two species is limited, and typically is not seen. Significant cross-reaction between Bartonella spp. and Chlamydia spp. has been reported.
